Shirley Zeller: Buttons Have Their Histories Too
The National Button Society began in 1938 with the Michigan Button Society following in 1940.
The national button society has several thousand members spanning four continents.
The goal of collecting buttons is “educating, enjoying and preserving all that is beautiful and historic in buttons.
”Why collect buttons? Study of history of different buttons, new friendships, competitive, offers something for all ages – and IT’S FUN!!
The Jacksonian Button Club has members from Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. Each month we have a presentation of a certain kind of button, i.e., bone, celluloid, enamel, shell, wood.
Shirley started button collecting because she had her mother’s and grandmother’s buttons.
She saw an article in the newspaper about the Jacksonian Button Club and visited just because it looked interesting.
She’s been hooked since then.

Dick Lewin: Historic Sale Cellars: When It Rained, It Didn’t Pour
Dick Lewin became fascinated with “open salts”, sometimes called “salt cellars”, through a friend who was an antique dealer. Once learning the history, he started to collect the beautiful little dishes, which were produced in porcelain, silver, pewter, and colored glass.
As part of this History Lives Through Art, the merchants on Superior Street have made a special effort to show us views of Albion’s past. Take the opportunity to view paintings, photographs, and other artifacts in their store windows all along Superior Street.
